Meet Karen Carter – A Pillar of Health in Gunnedah
Born and raised right here in Gunnedah, Karen Carter has dedicated her life to the wellbeing of our community. Her journey in pharmacy began with a Bachelor of Pharmacy and a Diploma of Hospital Pharmacy from the University of Sydney. Since then, she’s continuously expanded her knowledge, with a Diploma in Wound Care and currently studying for a Diploma in Increase Scope to better serve her patients.
With professional experience spanning work in renal and intensive care units at Prince Henry Hospital in Sydney, and as a locum pharmacist across various rural areas, Karen’s passion for community health led her back to Gunnedah in 1992. Taking over her first pharmacy in 1996 and expanding her business in 2000, she merged two locations to better serve her clients. Later, in 2009, she extended her reach by acquiring Narrabri Pharmacy.
Karen’s expertise and commitment haven’t gone unnoticed. She was awarded Soul Pattinson Pharmacy of the Year in 2002 and, in 2019, became a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, recognising her contributions to the field. In 2022 Carter's Pharmacy Gunnedah was a Finalists in The Guild Pharmacy of the Year. Beyond the pharmacy, Karen is an active Branch Committee Member in the NSW Pharmacy Guild.
Outside of work, Karen enjoys spending time with family and friends, and you might catch her out on the tennis court, golf course, or even paddle boarding! Her dedication to her community and love of life shine through in everything she does.
